One Year of Tate Tot

One year of Tate Tot has taught me...

1. Matt is a much lighter sleeper than I am.
2. Baby's schedule rules all.
3. A new pet peeve: Nothing bothers me more than when my kid has boogers hanging out of his nose. In turn, nothing annoys my kid more than me picking them!
4. I married a really good dad.
5. Babies really aren't as scary as I thought.
6. People were right when they said you don't care as much about nastiness when it's your own baby. One time Tate threw up his entire stomach (I swear!) over my shoulder, and in spite of the nastiness dripping off my shirt onto the floor, I just wanted my babe to feel better.
7. Baby Gap clothes run large.
8. To laugh when the baby is laughing. Don't be annoyed because he's jumping up and down in his crib when he should be sleeping; just smile because he's a happy boy.
9. It's a big risk, I think, when God sends little babies to us - last year I would have told you that I am totally not "mother material" and I was scared blind of doing the mom thing. But we get babies so that we will all be happy. Little moments of happiness have been the confetti during this party of a year - like when he crawls toward my bed every morning with a big old smile, or when he plays with books all on his own, or when he is completely fascinated by the faucet during his bath, or when he pats my face because he's excited to see me, or when we chat with each other using nonsense words. So blessed.

I'ts amazing how that Mama-bear magic works, huh? This week I had six boys under the age of five stripped down to their undies, screaming, and doing laps around my living room. And I thought, "At no other time in my life will I find this adorable."
