Some Pregnant Musings

I am about 36 weeks pregnant, which also means I am 9 months pregnant. 9 months pregnant. In my former, non-pregnant, ignorance-is -bliss life, I thought that women who were 9 months pregnant were about to have that baby. Not so. I've got four more weeks of this hugeness and it is really irritating me that human pregnancy has been lied about for so long. It is not a 9 month pregnancy, it is a 10 month pregnancy. 9 complete months really makes 10 months. See what I'm saying? Someone really should have explained this to me earlier.

In related news, this is me in my 36 week pregnant glory. Matt has been bugging me to take "belly" pictures and this is one that I allowed after work today. Forgive the non-make up, really tired look. Unfortunately, that's just how I look after hiking the flights of stairs to my fifth floor classroom at least six times every day, policing 6th grade habits, such as insisting that a person farting is not a reason to be deterred from researching their assigned Egyptian character, breaking up a fight on the playground, and generally running the circus that is my "professional life." I'm sounding ungrateful, but I'm really not. I feel great and I'm happy to be working and keeping myself busy. And the baby likes going to school and running around with me all day. It's when we're home that he gets bored and makes up for it by kicking me in the ribs.

What you see behind me is a very unfinished baby room, which is only one of the reasons that this little baby can't come a second earlier than November 7.

This odd face indicates that I was feeling a little weird about the whole pregnancy photo shoot. This is not exactly a physical state that I need preserved for posterity.

I couldn't agree more about the 9 month/10 month thing. I woke up this morning, after a particularly rough night, and thought, "I'm officially ready. Come, baby, come." That's a new one for me, as I've been wanting her to come on her intended date (oh, Oct 26 at 1pm) for months, now. Good luck my dear! I'm feeling your pain.

I find that if you take a picture zoomed in on just the belly, you can remove yourself from the body and objectively think you look cute.

At least that's what I told myself.

Wait till your 9 mos postpartum and the bump is still there. Then there's no removing yourself from the situation.

Oh but you do. You have to have proof someday when your little angel claims to be adopted. A teacher I taught with always took a picture of her belly with a calendar in the background so she would have "proof." Also, you look cute. If you want I'll send you a picture of me pregnant with Sylvie which will make you feel petite and tiny :)

Hang in there!! Your kids should behave better for you in your pregnant state.
Hugs-- so cute!!

You are a cute pregnant mom to be. The count relates to 10 lunar months and 9 calendar months, been there done that. It appears that the baby has not dropped yet. We are anxiously waiting.

Oh I love belly pics! You look so cute. I have to admit it is weird taking "belly pics", I have very few just because it feels a little weird. I don't know why, it just does. I can't wait to see cute pics of you little prince :)

nothing like a preggo picture to get blog readers to come out of the woodwork & comment!

but seriously... did i mention that i've been wanting a belly pic? because i have and i am REALLY proud of matt for what must have been some pretty serious convincing to let you do that. *high five*

you're a cute preggo lady. just be glad you're not an elephant. their gestation period is 22 months! yipes!

Actually, looking back at my belly pics (which by the way, are not nearly as cute as your's) and I am grateful that I have them. And Sydney loves seeing pictures of me when she was in my tummy. You look amazing. And good luck with the next 4 weeks. They are tough but you can do it!

you look great, aliss! seriously! can you believe you're almost done?? yeah, it is strange about the 40 weeks vs. number of months thing. Although I just count backwards from my due date for the months thing so it doesn't confuse people...and the first 2 weeks of a pregnancy a woman isn't even pregnant, so that helps. :) but either way, at least that last month is tough! so hang in there and i can't wait to see what your SON (how cool does that sound??) looks like and how you like being a mom!
love you!
