First we really wanted to hike the Alps, but then -- I'm 7 months pregnant. Then, we (more I) contemplated going on the Sound of Music Tour in Austria. Then, we decided to stay closer to home and go to Toronto and Niagara. We finally settled on
really close to home with northern Michigan. Kind of lame to start with some place so rad, but we actually had a wonderful time in Michigan.
We first had to go say hi to Collin (my brother) and Bree and our favorite Felix. He has curly hair, like his dad, and Matt had been trying to get it into a little bouffant, so it looks especially crazy. He was also eating almond butter, which is everywhere - as you can see.

We spent a morning on Lake Michigan. The water was cold, but it was really clear. This summer I went to Greece and the Outer Banks with absolutely no sunburn. In a stroke of over confidence, I didn't think I needed sunscreen and my back got superburned. I'm stupid.

One stipulation I have whenever we do something outdoorsy (since you all know, I'm a little less inclined that way), is that I demand s'mores. Matt was kind enough to acquiesce and built us a little campfire. Here he is with some charred s'mores. Yummmmmm.

Kayaking down a nice little river...

For not being a big animals/wildlife person, I am obsessed with monarch butterflies -- ever since the second grade! Isn't she a beauty?

We went on a hike and this is how Matt spent the better part of the 4 miles: taking pictures of fungus. Fungus. My patience in this endeavor really qualifies me for a wife award.

We also ate lots of cherries and cherry products (MI is famous for them), canoed, went to a double feature at a drive-in, and read books and picknicked outside. It was super relaxing; not that I really needed it.
That's it. Now it's back to rearranging my apartment to fit baby and other exploits.

This looks like a super great vacation. I'm getting so excited for you guys - now I just need to figure out what to knit up for the baby boy. Because let's face it - those orange booties are not for men.
We are going to go to Northern Wisconsin in a few weeks. Other side of the banks - are these considered staycations? Or are they just closecations?
I really wish that I could post pictures to this comment, cause then I could introduce you to the spider that Tyler spent two hours photographing while I hiked Gobbler's Knob (an entire mountain) up and down. ON OUR FIFTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.
Oh, the memories of long lonely hikes and 10 billion photographs to document the experience.
