Being colonial

The M & A couple have officially been married for 2+ years. Eek! To celebrate, we decided to drive a few hours to visit Colonial Williamsburg. We had a great time, in spite of the fact that the weatherman told me it would be 70 degrees throughout the weekend, when it really hung out around 58 degrees or so and RAINED! Aside from that, we enjoyed our jaunt down south. See....

I totally plan on having a shaded walkway as part of an English garden in my life some day. Is this gorgeous????

We were touring a tavern and the tour guide told the dude on the left to lay down on the bed. She was explaining that people used to sleep with complete strangers. She then told Matt to lay on the bed. The two strangers shook hands and remained this way for the rest of the tour - about 10 minutes. I thought Matt and the old guy were quite funny getting all snuggly.
This picture is mostly of me being FRRRROZEN. It's also of a brickyard. Did you know that in Colonial Williamsburg they do everything the way it would have been done in colonial times (as it was with this brickyard)? Indeed. Matt was fascinated by the brick man, the furniture man, the silversmith man, and the cabinet man. While Alissa also appreciated those men, she was mostly cold.

On Saturday, our actual anniversary, we went to a beautiful restaurant called King's Arms in historic Williamsburg. They run it as they would a colonial tavern. Matt was quite brave and got the colonial game pie which consisted of rabbit, duck, venison, and some other crazy meat. All the bravery Alissa could muster was very delightful salmon. Happy Anniversary!

I just wanted to point out to everyone that humans once (and probably still do) ate tongue (on the far left) and mutton spine (second to the left). I didn't ask to try any.

Did you know I eat an apple every day? I do. We were just getting in the quota for the day. Yummmmmy.

Alissa and Matt,
Happy 2-Year Anniversary, you two! Your anniversary is certainly easy to remember--Cinco de Mayo. Great thinking on that one. It sounds like you had a great getaway trip to Williamsburg. We spent Christmas 2004 there in Williamsburg, but never saw any of the sights--it looks like a lot of fun! Keep these blog updates coming--LOVE them. :)
Love,
Janelle
