If you know me, you probably know - or at least you should - that I am fascinated by war propaganda (history geek for life). Here is a blog post I wrote a few years ago about my dilemma regarding hanging Communist Vietnam posters (I ended up hanging them in our Chicago apartment). I've been collecting it since I was 15 and have built up a happy little collection that I loved to share with my students, but which now sits rolled up in my basement. Which is really sad.
Really, I love it from any country, but I especially love it from Britain. When I saw this video about the now-cliche "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster, I was so floored that it was originally a British propaganda poster that I just had to share it with all six of you who read this blog. I feel like an idiot that I didn't think of that before - I'm sure that I'm sharing no new information.

I really liked that video. Very cool. And I want to go to that bookstore.
I LOVE it. Who knew?
History is not my favorite subject, probably because in school it was all about memorization (in order to get a good grade) and that is not something I am good at. BUT, I do enjoy learning things. I'm so glad you posted that. I always wondered where that saying came from...and now I know. BTW, you have more than 6 readers!! Hope you are doing well.....your time of one child is coming to an end soon!!
Thanks for the history lesson for today. It really is a great slogan in just about every crisis.
Yes, I bought one in the cutest little British shoppe on Massachusetts St. in Lawrence the moment after I asked the man what the history behind the sign was. I loved the story behind it--and am still amazed at how modern it's whole look is--and how timeless and resonating its message is-- despite being half a century old! I have mine in green and love it. I keep it as near my kitchen as I can (for my own crises that occur there frequently as the hub of the home where little children gravitate). Thanks for sharing this video. I loved getting the deeper history of it. (And the video is so well-done).
I love that! Thanks for sharing. I feel smarter now.
Fantastic video. I wish I could have that bookstore a bit closer to my house--that's fantastic.
