Barack and Roll: Part Deux

Obama's rally in Grant Park was the talk of Chicagoland for the week before November 4 ... and it kind of still is! Caitlin's (so glad you live here now!) brother, who worked on the campaign, scored us some of the very coveted tickets. After getting into Grant Park, he took us back to the media area, where we got to enjoy the rally without being sardines with thousands of other people.

The energy in Grant Park was incredible. CNN was playing on the Jumbotron and the crowd cheered every time Wolf announced Obama had won a state. The crowd went crrrrazy, though, right after they called Virginia and declared Obama the winner. Obama and his family came on at about 11pm, after McCain's concession speech (which, by the way, I though was so graceful). The crowd was totally silent during his almost 20 minute speech. We left a little while after he finished and people were still celebrating in the streets. There was an awesome feeling of "togetherness" as Chicagoans - from every part of the city - came to celebrate together. As we were getting on the El to head home, one dude yelled out, "This is better than the Super Bowl!" Yeah, I'd say so.

Chicago office buildings frequently do stuff with the lights in the skyscrapers. I like this one.

Recognize this? This is the stage where he delivered his speech.

Proof that we were there!

Celebrating after CNN announced Obama won!

So, it's not a very good picture, but you can at least see that it was Barack and Michelle Obama!

For someone who teaches every day about important moments in history, it was exciting to be a part of one.

What a great opportunity--especially for a history teacher. I feel like this is an election that I'll tell my kids and grandkids about.

My mom scored some tickets to that too. She's been on cloud 9 ever since. I bet it was an amazing thing to watch. Way to be there at a historical event Miss history teacher.
