The Windy, Very Windy City

We went to Chicago this weekend for apartment and job hunting. It turned out to be our most expensive (for hotel, car rental, internet, parking, and having to eat every meal out) and least fun "vacation" yet! It is hard work driving all over a huge city trying to figure out where on earth to live. I'm happy to report that we signed a lease on a beautiful street in Chicago. I went to a long and horrible job fair that got me some interviews, so I may be employed some time soon! Miracle of miracles! We did get some time to be a bit touristy. See...

This is at Millenium Park in downtown Chicago. This is outdoor art - lots of people call it the bean because it is shaped like a bean. You can see your reflection in it, so it's kind of fun looking at yourself in a new shape. After hanging out at Millenium Park, we took an architectural tour of Chicago. It was great - I'm starting to get more excited about living here in a month.

This is also in Millenium Park. This "face" is on a huge tiled wall and it spits water out. These Chicago kids LOVED playing in this. It was fun to watch them. Every 5 minutes or so the face will purse its lips and "spit" water. Delighted screams from happy children then followed. They are brave kids. It was a very windy day, I was feeling very chilly for most of it!

This picture is taken at Grand Park where the Taste of Chicago is held. We went and tried tastes of Chicago's restaurants and it was good and we were full! We also enjoyed some live jazz in the park for a while. Isn't this back drop pretty?

On Tuesday we had some time to kill so we went to Oak Park, about 10 minutes west of Chicago. This is Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio. We took a tour of the home and studio and went on a walking tour around the neighborhood that was full of Wright's homes! It was fun to see this and I've settled on my future home, I think.
Below: Wright's studio (unfortunately we couldn't take pictures inside - that's where most of the details were).

One of my future homes. It was really lovely - especially the windows.

See? Now that you see what a cool city I'm about to live in, aren't you planning a visit? Of COURSE you are! We have a two bedroom apartment, all ready for some guests (starting in August).

This makes me so homesick! And Josh and I will be your future neighbors... we took the FLW home walking tour, and picked out our future houme last summer. One of the last houses on the tour, huge, white, with ferns hanging along the wrap-around porch. Love Oak Park!

Alissa,
You're moving to CHicago! We lived in Oak Park for 2 years - it's fantastic, albeit expensive. Where are you moving? I went to school at DePaul University in Lincoln Park which is also a fantastic neighborhood. I was there last week and miss it terribly. good luck with the move!
